The Journey of a Cult is often characterized by specific steps.

1. The Grand Vision

An inspiring figure or leaders introduce a new and transcendent idea that promises a cure for disconnected individuals.

And so it goes. Preparations are underway to challenge the establishment in Australia. The gunships are circling. Smoke is rising from within. An isolated player, naked, shivering, the words HIGH RELEASE POINT smeared across his chest as a statement, has come staggering through the lines and is removed in secrecy to a different team elsewhere.

2. Initial Adoration

Movement founders guarantee a reboot, a brighter tomorrow, camaraderie, success within a community united in belief in the big idea.

How did it feel initially? Just men on a balcony enjoying success. Tattoos. Muscles. Determination. Elite male wellness energy. Of course, England’s players insist it’s not a real term, which is funny since it’s not recognized, what did we see?

However, everyone understands its essence. It’s the player playing a shot so depraved it’s beyond belief. It’s the thrill of the leader in his final form, a demeanor suggesting: pensive Nordic god, beard made of wood, hair woven from beaver hide, truly contemporary you almost imagine to glance over and find him positioned at mid-off shirtless embracing nature.

It’s the batsman often seen addressing the media, resembling a happy little woodland creature smartly dressed, expressing thoughts like we’re breaking down traditions. Indeed, the vibe, for quite a long time, was entirely positive.

3. A New Life

Growth phase. Unity enforced by rote learning of the cult’s slogans. These ideas may seem irrational as a test of “true belief”.

Does anyone else feel? The criticism, the outrage, the sense of betrayal post-defeat seems too strong, overdone. England batted badly in Perth, as they often do in Australia.
