World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
